Deep Sea World, Public aquarium in North Queensferry, Scotland
Deep Sea World is a public aquarium in North Queensferry, Scotland, with around 40 display zones showing marine animals from a range of habitats. The collection includes seals, seahorses, rays, and several species of shark.
The aquarium opened in 1993 and became one of Scotland's main centres for learning about sea life. It was built inside a former sandstone quarry, which gave it its unusually sunken layout.
The aquarium sits in a small village right beside the Forth Bridge, giving the visit a memorable setting. Daily feeding sessions let visitors watch staff interact with sharks and rays at close range.
The aquarium is open year-round apart from Christmas Day and New Year's Day, so most visits need no special planning around closure dates. Wheelchair access and hearing loops are available inside, and parking is close to the entrance.
The underwater tunnel runs for 112 meters and is considered one of the longest of its kind in Europe. It was carved directly through the rock of the old quarry, so the rough stone walls are still visible alongside the glass panels.
