Druridge Bay, Coastal nature reserve in Northumberland, England
Druridge Bay is a coastal nature reserve stretching along the North Sea in Northumberland, featuring expansive sandy beaches, rolling dunes, and grassland habitats. The site includes a large freshwater lake surrounded by woodland that provides shelter for birds and other wildlife.
During World War II, the coastline received military defenses including anti-tank obstacles, concrete pillboxes, and wooden barriers as protection against potential invasion. Some of these wartime structures remain visible across the landscape today.
The bay hosts the North East Skinny Dip annual event since 2012, gathering participants to raise funds for mental health organizations.
The site provides parking, restrooms, a cafe, and an information center for orientation. Designated areas allow visitors to enjoy water sports, cycling, and bird watching throughout the grounds.
The 1994 album Promenade by the band Divine Comedy opens with recorded sounds of waves crashing onto the shore here. This audio sample was captured on location and shapes the album's opening moments.
