Dunalastair House, Category B listed country house in Perth and Kinross, Scotland.
Dunalastair House is a stone mansion near Fortingall featuring traditional Scottish architectural details with baronial-style construction. The building showcases the robust stone walls and design typical of 19th-century Highland estates in this region.
An earlier tower structure on the site was destroyed after the Jacobite uprising of 1745 because Alexander Robertson of Struan had supported the rebellion. The current mansion was constructed in 1862 following the demolition of an intermediate building.
The estate holds deep ties to Clan Donnachaidh heritage, with a burial ground for clan chiefs visible on the property. This sacred space reflects how the land continues to honor local family histories and connections.
The estate is situated west of Pitlochry and offers views across to Schiehallion mountain with access to Dunalastair Water nearby. Since this is a private residence, visitors can appreciate the exterior and surrounding grounds only.
General Macdonald, who took over the estate in 1862, ordered the demolition of an existing structure to make way for the current mansion on the site. This substantial rebuilding project resulted in the construction of the present building, which later gained category B listed status.
