East Park, Public park in Wolverhampton, England
East Park is a public park in Wolverhampton covering around 18 hectares with tennis courts, football pitches, gardens, and walking paths. The grounds include a children's playground with water play areas and provide spaces for various leisure activities.
The park opened in 1896 on land donated by the Duke of Sutherland and Sir Alfred Hickman, transforming a former coal mining site. This conversion of industrial land into recreation space marked an important change for the area.
The Lysaght Memorial Clock Tower from 1887 marks the center of the grounds and serves as a focal point for visitors. This structure reflects the long history connected to the place.
The park is easily accessible on foot and offers well-marked paths for visitors of varying mobility levels. There is plenty of space for picnicking and lingering throughout the grounds.
The original boating lake had to be abandoned in 1922 because underground mine shafts caused drainage problems. A playground was later built on this site, showing how the park adapted to the challenges below ground.
