Grade II listed status reflects the park's preservation of authentic 18th century landscape design, including temples, grottoes, and follies by architect James Paine.
Durham County Council maintains visitor facilities including a center, cafe, restrooms, exhibition space, and classroom areas throughout the park grounds.
The 17-acre ornamental lake features an artificial river connection, making it a central element in the park's original Georgian landscape design.
