National Museum of the Royal Navy, Hartlepool

The National Museum of the Royal Navy features an extensive replica of an 18th-century seaport with period buildings, traditional shops, and naval exhibits throughout the complex.

HMS Trincomalee, constructed in Bombay in 1817, stands as the oldest British warship still floating and functions as the primary attraction of the museum.

The museum presents exhibitions about naval warfare, including cannon demonstrations, musket firing displays, and collections depicting the life of sailors in Georgian times.

The museum opens Wednesday through Sunday from 11:00 to 16:00, with extended hours during school holidays and includes free parking near Hartlepool train station.

Visitors can explore the Fighting Ships exhibition, which contains authentic naval artifacts and tells stories through the perspective of a young powder monkey named Jim Henshaw.
