Hartlepool Art Gallery, Art museum in Church Square, Hartlepool, England.
Hartlepool Art Gallery is an art museum housed in a restored Victorian church building on Church Square with a 100-foot (30 m) tower. The structure features six functioning bells and multiple gallery spaces spread across its interior floors.
Edward Buckton Lamb designed the original church structure in 1854, and it eventually ceased functioning as a place of worship. The building underwent extensive restoration work before opening to the public as an art museum in 1996.
The gallery displays rotating exhibitions showcasing contemporary art, photography, and craft work from local and national artists throughout its spaces. These collections give visitors a sense of what creative practitioners are making today.
The gallery opens Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 to 17:30 and Sunday from 14:00 to 17:00, with full wheelchair accessibility throughout the building. The location on Church Square makes it easy to reach on foot from the town centre.
The building also functions as a tourist information centre alongside its role as an art gallery. This dual purpose means visitors can gather travel advice and see exhibitions in the same location.
