Heartwood Forest, Protected forest area in Sandridge, England.
Heartwood Forest is a large woodland in Sandridge with a mix of young trees, patches of ancient woodland, and open meadows. The area features clearly marked paths that connect different sections, making it easy to navigate through the landscape.
The woodland project began in 2008 when the Woodland Trust converted former farmland into a new forest. Since then, trees have been continuously planted on the site while a small portion of ancient woodland was preserved from the original landscape.
The forest serves as a gathering place where schools and local groups come to learn about native trees and forest ecosystems. Visitors regularly participate in planting and conservation activities that help restore the woodland over time.
The site is easy to access with parking areas available for visitors and trails suitable for walking, cycling, and horseback riding. Best to visit on quieter days if you prefer to experience the woodland without crowds.
The arboretum here houses all 57 species of trees that naturally grow in Britain. This complete collection exists nowhere else in the country and makes the forest a valuable place to learn about native tree species.
