Heavers Meadow, Natural meadow in Selhurst, London Borough of Croydon, England
Heavers Meadow is a natural green space in Selhurst that spreads between Selhurst Road and Tennison Road with open grassland throughout. Norbury Brook runs through the site, creating a water feature that shapes the landscape.
The Croydon Corporation acquired this land in 1935 from the Ecclesiastical Commissioners for public recreation and community use. The western part was once woodland in the 1800s before railway construction in the mid-19th century divided the area.
The meadow provides essential green space for Selhurst residents, connecting the community with nature through walking paths and seasonal flora changes.
The meadow has footpaths that guide visitors through the grassland and are easy to walk. Be cautious in wet weather as the brook can swell quickly after heavy rain, with safety barriers installed along the water.
The western section of the current meadow was part of Dragnet Wood in 1800, later renamed Selhurst Wood until railway construction divided it in 1867.
