Hilton London Metropole, hotel in London, United Kingdom
The Hilton London Metropole is a large hotel in west central London, made up of a 24-floor main tower and two additional wings of different heights. Together they form one of the biggest hotel complexes in the city, with over a thousand rooms and a wide range of conference and event spaces.
The building opened in 1972, designed by architect Richard Seifert, who was also behind several other well-known towers in London. It changed hands a number of times over the following decades before Henderson Park took over in 2017.
The hotel stands on Edgware Road, a street known for its many Arabic cafes, restaurants, and shops that give the area a strong Middle Eastern character. Visitors walking outside will notice a mix of languages, food smells, and street life that feels quite different from other parts of central London.
The hotel is close to Paddington station, which makes getting around London by tube or train straightforward from here. The main entrance is on Edgware Road, and the lobby is large enough to help orient guests arriving for the first time.
In 2014, the hotel hosted the World Irish Dancing Championship, the first time this event was held in England rather than Ireland. The architect Richard Seifert, who designed the main tower, was also responsible for the NatWest Tower, another well-known London high-rise from the same era.
