Lakeshore, Bristol, Grade II listed apartment building in Hartcliffe, Bristol, England.
Lakeshore is a residential complex in Hartcliffe, southwest Bristol, built with a steel frame and clad in glass and Cor-Ten steel, giving it a rust-toned exterior. The building is surrounded by landscaped grounds and a man-made lake that form part of the property.
The building was constructed in 1967 as the headquarters of Imperial Tobacco and served as office space for decades. It was converted into residential apartments between 2007 and 2012, at which point it received a Grade II listed status recognizing its architectural value.
The name Lakeshore comes from the man-made lake that wraps around the building, giving the whole place a recognizable character. On warmer days, people walk along the water and sit near the gardens, which have become a shared outdoor space for those who live here.
The complex is in the southwest of Bristol and can be reached by public transport from the city centre. The paths around the lake and gardens are open to walk through, though the building itself is a private residential property.
The conversion included the installation of a geothermal energy system that draws heat from the ground to warm and cool the building. For a residential complex of this size, that kind of setup was rare at the time the work was carried out.
