Mathematics Tower, Manchester

Mathematics Tower, Manchester, International Style skyscraper at University of Manchester, United Kingdom.

The Mathematics Tower was an 18-story high-rise building with a three-story base podium at the University of Manchester. Its facade combined exposed concrete with angled glass windows, creating a striking visual contrast across the structure.

Edmund Percey designed this building in 1968 as part of the University of Manchester's post-war expansion. It stood approximately 75 meters tall and shaped the campus for decades before its demolition in 2005.

The Mathematics Tower housed classrooms and research spaces for mathematics and physics students until its demolition in 2005.

The building stood at the intersection of Oxford Road and Brunswick Street within the main university campus. It was easily accessible from the city center and served as a clear landmark within the academic setting.

The western facade displayed raw concrete while the eastern side featured protruding glass windows at varying angles. This asymmetrical design was a deliberate stylistic choice that gave the building an unusual architectural identity.
