Kilburn Building, Computer science department building at University of Manchester, England
The Kilburn Building is a cubic structure on Oxford Road at the University of Manchester with three above-ground floors. Inside are lecture halls, offices, and research laboratories where computer science students and faculty work together.
The building opened in 1972 as a project by the architectural firm Building Design Partnership. It was renamed in 2001 to honor Tom Kilburn, a pioneering computer scientist at the university.
The Department of Computer Science within the building maintains research facilities and educational spaces for technology advancement at the University of Manchester.
The building has three separate entrances at different levels that serve different areas. Visitors should note that one entrance is reached via an elevated walkway and finding your way can vary depending on where you enter.
Underneath the building flows the Cornbrook, a hidden river that continues toward the Manchester Ship Canal. Most visitors walk past unaware of this underground watercourse that runs beneath their feet.
