Mavisbank House, Category A listed country house in Lasswade, Scotland
Mavisbank House stands near Loanhead with two flanking pavilions connected by curved walls, representing classical Palladian architecture in Scotland.
Sir John Clerk collaborated with architect William Adam to construct this villa between 1723 and 1727 as a retreat from Edinburgh's environment.
The building served multiple purposes throughout its existence, transforming from a private residence to an asylum before suffering extensive fire damage in 1973.
The National Heritage Memorial Fund allocated £5.3 million in 2024 for structural stabilization and detailed condition assessments of the property.
The original foundation stones from 1723 remain visible, laid by mason John Baxter Senior before William Adam took over the construction supervision.
