Lots Ait, River island in Brentford, United Kingdom.

Lots Ait is a small river island in the Thames near Brentford that spans less than an acre. Willows and poplars grow freely across the ground, while remnants of old boat repair yards and storage buildings remain visible throughout the site.

The island was once known as Barbel Island and served as a fishing spot for anglers. Later it functioned as a grassland for cultivation and a repair facility for barges, with these operations ending in 1980.

The island gained recognition through its appearance in the film 'The African Queen' and an episode of 'George Clarke's Amazing Spaces' television series.

Visitors can reach the island via the Dahlia Bridge built in 2012 or by walking across the muddy ground when the tide is low. It's best to check the tides beforehand and wear sturdy footwear if you plan to explore the muddy areas.

Since 2011, boat building has been revived on the island through John's Boat Works, bringing back a craft tradition after more than three decades away. This return to shipbuilding marks a meaningful reconnection with the site's industrial past.
