Museum of Rail Travel

The Museum of Rail Travel in Ingrow is an independent collection of restored railway carriages that documents different periods of train transportation. The exhibits include vehicles spanning more than a century of railway history and show how passenger services evolved over time.

The project began in the 1960s with the goal of preserving historic railway carriages and was later registered as a charitable organization. Public opening occurred in the early 1990s under professional management.

The collection shows carriages from different British railway companies, revealing how travel looked and felt in different periods. You can see how comfort and design changed as the railways developed over time.

The museum is located near Ingrow West station and is easily accessible by rail, making it a natural stop for railway enthusiasts. The best time to visit is on a dry day, as many exhibits stand outdoors.

Many of the carriages displayed here have appeared in film and television productions, serving as props in historical scenes. This adds an entertaining layer to the vehicles that goes beyond their railway history.
