Mid-Yare National Nature Reserve, Nature reserve in Norfolk, England.
Mid-Yare National Nature Reserve is a nature reserve along the River Yare east of Norwich, England. The site comprises wetlands, woodlands, and grasslands with extensive reed beds and diverse habitats for wildlife.
The area was developed by English Nature and combines four former RSPB protected areas into one reserve. This consolidation created a larger connected habitat for wildlife along the Yare valley.
The reserve draws visitors who come to watch rare birds and insects in their natural surroundings, making birdwatching a common activity here. People of all ages visit to observe wildlife and connect with the environment.
The reserve has several walking trails and observation points where visitors can watch wildlife best. The best time to visit is autumn and winter when migratory birds arrive.
The site hosts Britain's largest flock of bean geese and provides home for rare swallowtail butterflies and Norwich hawker dragonflies. These insects are especially visible during summer months and rank among England's most threatened species.
