Middleton Lakes RSPB reserve, Nature reserve in Middleton, United Kingdom
Middleton Lakes spans 160 hectares of wetlands, meadows, and woodlands, with the River Tame flowing through its northern section near Birmingham.
The reserve opened in 2011 on former gravel quarry grounds operated by Hanson Aggregates until 2007, when the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds acquired it.
The reserve maintains four walking trails ranging from 500 meters to 3 kilometers, enabling visitors to observe over 1,000 species of animals, plants, and fungi.
Visitors can access the reserve from Bodymoor Heath Lane, with facilities including parking areas and educational resources about local wildlife.
English Longhorn cattle graze the large meadow, creating conditions for nesting skylarks while herons gather in numbers up to 100 in their breeding colony.
