O2 Academy Glasgow, Music venue and movie theater in Glasgow, United Kingdom
The building rises across multiple levels and displays the geometric lines and ornamental details of the Art Deco style. Staircases connect the three floors, while the interior spaces accommodate up to 2,550 visitors.
The former cinema underwent a £3 million renovation project and opened as an entertainment hall on March 26, 2003. The conversion work transformed the movie auditorium into a modern space for concerts and other performances.
The venue takes its name from a telecommunications company and now serves both concert and cinema purposes. The six bars spread across three levels give visitors places to gather between performances.
The hall stands about ten minutes on foot from Glasgow's main railway station and can be reached through several streets. Accessible viewing platforms and lowered counters allow visitors with limited mobility to reach all levels.
James Brown gave his final United Kingdom concert here on October 25, 2006. This performance took place less than two months before his death and drew fans from across Scotland.
