The stone church features a grand portico with six Ionic columns and intricate Greek motifs adorning the entrance portals of the structure.
Scottish architect John Baird began construction in 1856, with Alexander Thomson completing the church that opened on March 22, 1857 at a cost of £8000.
The neoclassical Greek Revival structure served as both a religious center and gathering place for the Gorbals community until its closure in 1963.
The church remains stand at the junction of Gorbals Road and Caledonian Road, with structural stabilization work maintaining the remaining walls.
Following an arson attack in 1965, the church exists as a preserved ruin, with multiple unexecuted restoration proposals spanning from the 1990s onward.
