Mynyddbach Chapel

Mynyddbach Chapel is a chapel building standing on elevated ground with stone walls and spacious grounds dotted with gravestones spanning different periods. The chapel traces its origins to 1640 when a congregation first gathered at Cilfwnwr farmhouse near Llangyfelach, though the present building was constructed in 1867. This later construction date relates to its location outside Swansea, where religious restrictions on nonconformist groups were more relaxed.

The chapel houses the remains of Daniel James, who wrote the cherished Welsh hymn Calon Lân, and displays his life through dedicated exhibits. This connection draws people interested in Welsh musical traditions and heritage to visit and reflect on his contributions.
