Siloh Welsh Congregational Chapel, Grade II* listed congregational chapel in Landore, Wales
Siloh Welsh Congregational Chapel sits at the top of Siloh Hill as a brick building with three prominent bays separated by pediments and decorated with acanthus capitals. Inside, a large polygonal pulpit and an organ with decorated pipes from 1926 create the main focal points of the interior.
The building was designed in 1878 by Thomas Freeman and originally featured a large gallery level that could hold around 1100 people. The elliptical ceiling with ribbed details was a distinctive architectural feature from that period.
The chapel served as a center for Welsh language worship, embodying the connection between faith and Welsh identity in the community. Visitors can observe how this space held significance for generations who gathered here together.
The building sits on top of a hill in Landore, making it visible and recognizable from a distance. Access can be challenging in wet weather, so appropriate footwear is helpful when visiting.
The congregation shrank dramatically over the decades until only a handful of members remained. In 2016, Liberty Church took over the building and began restoration work to breathe new life into the space.
