Oxgangs high rise flats, Residential tower complex in Oxgangs, Edinburgh, United Kingdom.
The Oxgangs high rise flats were a residential complex consisting of three concrete towers on Firrhill Drive in Edinburgh. Allermuir Court, Caerketton Court, and Capelaw Court each housed 80 apartments and shaped the character of this suburban neighborhood.
The towers were built between 1961 and 1962 as part of a broader shift toward suburban housing developments in post-war Scotland. The entire complex was later demolished between 2003 and 2006 and replaced by 91 new mixed housing units.
Each tower took its name from peaks in the Pentland range that rise above Edinburgh, bringing the surrounding natural landscape into the identity of this residential development.
The site today shows new housing developments that replaced the original tower complex. The location lies in a well-connected residential area on Edinburgh's south side with good local access.
The demolition of Allermuir and Caerketton Court in November 2006 required careful engineering to prevent damage to nearby structures. This approach allowed both towers to come down in a controlled manner within days of each other.
