Pill Priory, Medieval priory ruins in Milford Haven, Wales.
Pill Priory are the ruins of an Augustinian monastery, with a stone chancel arch and portions of the south transept still visible today. The structures are built from locally quarried Old Red Sandstone and Limestone, showing what remains of a once-functioning religious complex.
Founded around 1200 by Adam de la Roche as a daughter house of St Dogmaels Abbey, it served as an Augustinian monastery for over three centuries. The community came to an end in 1537 during the dissolution of the monasteries under English law.
The site was dedicated to the Virgin Mary and Saint Budoc, a connection visible in the architectural details that remain standing. This dual dedication shaped the spiritual life of the monks who lived and worshipped within these walls.
The site stands on the outskirts of Milford Haven and is now privately owned with limited public access available. It is best to check beforehand whether a visit is possible, as the remains are not regularly open to the public.
The surviving financial records from 1535 reveal the monetary value of the monastery's annual income in pounds sterling, showing its economic standing at that time. These rare documents offer a glimpse into the financial reality of the place just before its closure.
