Favour Royal, Historical estate in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland.
Favour Royal is an estate in County Tyrone spanning about 740 acres of farmland with an ornamental lake and a walled garden dating to the 1700s. The property sits near the Irish border and includes various outbuildings across its grounds.
The land was originally called Portclare when King James I granted it to Sir Thomas Ridgeway in 1613 during Ulster's plantation period. The current mansion was designed by architect John Hargrave and built in 1825.
The main residence reflects architectural tastes of Northern Irish landed families in the 1800s through its design choices. The style shows how landowners wanted their homes to look both rooted in tradition and modern for their era.
The property is currently not accessible to visitors due to its dilapidated state. Earlier plans to convert the buildings into a hotel and golf course were never completed.
The grounds contain St Mary's Portclare, a private chapel built specifically for the estate and consecrated in 1835. This chapel is a rare example of a place of worship designed exclusively for the landowner's use.
