Parkanaur House

Parkanaur House is a country estate with Tudor Revival architecture that features octagonal pinnacles, gables, and prominent bay windows across its front. The surrounding grounds form a forest park opened to visitors in 1983, offering woodland paths and open spaces.

The property was originally held by the O'Donnelly family and passed to Sir Toby Caulfeild in the early 1600s when granted by James I, later becoming the Burges family residence. Its architectural form from that period has endured to shape the local landscape.

The mansion became home to a training center in 1960, serving young adults with disabilities and shaping how the space functions in the community today. This transformation shows how historic houses in Northern Ireland adapted to educational purposes.

The forest park is freely accessible with established trails through woodland and clearings suitable for all abilities. Come prepared for changeable weather, as the exposed terrain offers little shelter.

The estate maintains a specialized herd of white fallow deer that inhabit the woodland grounds and add an unusual element to the visitor experience. These animals roam freely among the forest paths, creating unexpected wildlife encounters.
