Redmires Reservoirs, group of reservoirs in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England, UK

Redmires Reservoirs are three lakes near Sheffield set on open moorland with woodland trails and gentle walking paths throughout. The site features historic dams, waterfalls, spillways, and viewing areas where birds and wildlife live alongside the water.

Built between 1833 and 1854 to supply water to Sheffield's growing population, the reservoirs were essential infrastructure when the city's previous supply became insufficient. The dams represent how Sheffield used highland water sources to support industrial expansion and urban growth.

The reservoirs have been central to how Sheffield residents understand water and nature for nearly two centuries. Walking routes here reflect how people today use this landscape for leisure while remaining connected to its role in the city's growth and survival.

Parking is available on Soughley Lane and Redmires Road, with bus connections to nearby areas for those using public transport. Paths are mixed terrain with paved sections and rougher ground that can be wet, so sturdy footwear is recommended and dogs must be kept on a leash.

An old carved stone from 1828 marked the location of the Grouse and Trout pub where construction workers once relaxed during dam building. In dry weather, visitors can also spot an old mileage sign on the upper reservoir referencing pack horse routes that once crossed this land.
