The Queens Theatre was a playhouse located on Watson Street near Glasgow Cross, featuring a stage about 48 feet (15 meters) wide and ornamental Corinthian columns framing the proscenium arch. The building accommodated sizable audiences and served as a major entertainment venue in the area.
The building started as Star Music Hall in the 1870s and went through several name changes before becoming the Queens Theatre in 1897 under manager Fred Cooke. This transformation reflected the venue's evolution over its early decades.
The venue drew working-class audiences and presented variety shows and pantomimes performed in local dialect. Low ticket prices made theatre accessible to people from all walks of life.
The theatre sat near Glasgow Cross, a central point in the city and easy to reach on foot. Note that the building no longer operates and can only be viewed from the outside today.
