Priory Park, Public park in Hornsey, England
Priory Park is a public green space covering around 6.5 hectares in Hornsey. The grounds contain tennis courts, basketball facilities, a bowling green, and multiple areas for recreational activities.
The land was acquired in 1891 by Hornsey Local Board from Colonel Warner to create a public recreation space. The priory that gave the park its name had long vanished before this transformation took place.
The park takes its name from a medieval priory that once occupied this land. Visitors can trace this heritage through the layout and information boards scattered throughout the grounds.
The park gates open early each day and remain open until dusk, allowing flexible visits at different times. A paddling pool, philosophers' garden, and all-weather playing pitch offer varied options for different activities.
A granite fountain from 1909, built with 50 tonnes of Lamorna stone, stands at the center and now serves as a decorative planter. The site holds protected status under the Fields in Trust program, ensuring its safeguarding for future generations.
