Rampion Wind Farm, Offshore wind farm in Sussex coast, England.
Rampion Wind Farm is an offshore power installation with 116 turbines positioned in the sea off the Sussex coast. The turbines spread across the water between 13 and 25 kilometers from shore, covering a large area of ocean.
The installation received government approval in July 2014 and construction began in 2015. Full electricity production started in November 2017, marking the completion of the project.
Local schools helped choose the name Rampion, after the county flower of Sussex, creating a connection between the installation and the community. Visitors sailing past can spot the turbines as part of the coastal landscape, becoming a visible reminder of the region's commitment to renewable sources.
The installation sits far offshore, so it is best viewed by boat or from a distance along the coast. The turbines become visible from land on clear days, especially during early morning hours when light conditions are favorable.
The installation prevents around 600,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year by generating power from wind instead of fossil fuels. This environmental contribution represents a significant reduction in the region's overall carbon footprint.
