River Street Tower, High-rise building in Manchester, England
River Street Tower is a 42-floor glass and steel high-rise in the south of Manchester city center, close to the Mancunian Way. It contains residential units alongside shared spaces such as a gym, study areas, a media room, a games zone, and a private dining room.
For many years the site held an unfinished concrete frame that had been left to decay, until the project was completed in the early 2020s. The tower brought a long-dormant patch of the city back into use.
The tower is home to students from several Manchester universities, who share common spaces and shape the rhythm of daily life inside the building. Areas like the media room and games zone give the place the feel of a vertical student neighborhood.
The tower stands close to the Mancunian Way, which makes the wider city easy to reach by public transport or on foot. The southern edges of the city center, with shops and everyday services, are within walking distance.
Although the building follows a neomodern architectural style, its narrow glass profile stands out sharply against the older brick buildings nearby. This contrast makes it one of the most visible points on the southern edge of the city center skyline.
