Sandwell Valley Country Park, Country park in Sandwell and Staffordshire, England
Sandwell Valley Country Park is a large green space in Sandwell with open fields, wooded areas, and water features connected by well-maintained paths. At its heart sits a working farm with historical buildings and a separate play area equipped with climbing structures and a rope bridge.
The site was once a working agricultural area with water mills and farms that shaped the region for centuries before becoming a public park. The remaining buildings and gardens preserve evidence of this farming past and how the landscape was used and managed.
The working farm within the park shows traditional livestock breeds and lets visitors see how these animals fit into rural life today. Walking past the pastures and barns gives a real sense of agricultural work and animal husbandry as it happens.
The park has separate areas for different uses: walking paths run throughout, there are routes for cycling, and the play area is designed for families with children. Visit during dry conditions when the paths are easiest to walk and all areas are fully open.
The farm holds more than 300 animals from older breeds that are rarely seen elsewhere, making it one of the few places where you can encounter them in person. The herd changes with the seasons, with special events like spring births and autumn harvests giving visitors chances to witness the farm's rhythms firsthand.
