Shefton Museum, Archaeological museum at Armstrong Building, Newcastle upon Tyne, England.
The Shefton Museum was an archaeological museum housed within Newcastle University's Armstrong Building that contained over 800 artifacts. Its collection focused primarily on Greek and Etruscan antiquities from the ancient world.
Professor Brian B. Shefton founded the museum in 1956 with initial support from university Rector Charles Bosanquet and directed it until 1984. The museum closed in 2008 and its collections were transferred to the renovated Hancock Museum.
The museum's collection illuminated various aspects of ancient civilizations through artifacts that now reside in the Great North Museum: Hancock.
The museum is no longer accessible to visitors as it closed in 2008 and its collection is now housed in the Great North Museum Hancock. Those interested in viewing these objects can visit the nearby Hancock Museum, which is located on the same university grounds.
The institution specialized in Greek and Etruscan archaeological objects, growing from a small teaching collection to an extensive assemblage of antiquities.
