South Croydon, Residential district in South London, United Kingdom.
South Croydon is a residential area that spreads through a valley south of central Croydon, with Waddon on the western side and Selsdon and Sanderstead on the eastern side. The area has houses and green spaces mixed together, with three churches as notable landmarks scattered throughout.
The area grew from two ancient manors called Croham and Haling that existed in medieval times. The Whitgift Foundation acquired significant land holdings in the area starting in 1596 and shaped its development over the centuries that followed.
Emmanuel Church, St. Augustine's Church, and St. Peter's Church show different building styles from different periods and serve as places where locals gather. These buildings tell the story of how the community developed over time.
South Croydon railway station and a bus garage provide transportation connections to central London and neighboring areas. Regular services from here make it easy to reach different parts of the city without needing a car.
Croham Hurst is ancient woodland with protected status because of its unusual geology and diverse plant life. This wooded area offers visitors a chance to see natural habitats that have survived in an urban setting.
