Sky Plaza, Student residential skyscraper in Arena Quarter, Leeds, United Kingdom
Sky Plaza is a 37-floor student residence tower in central Leeds, one of the tallest residential buildings in the United Kingdom. The building offers over 500 apartments and is recognizable from a distance thanks to its slim form and large glass facade.
The tower was built between 2007 and 2009, during a period when Leeds was investing in modern student housing in its city center. It was one of the first projects of this scale to respond directly to the growing need for residential space close to the universities.
Sky Plaza sits in the Arena Quarter, a part of central Leeds where students from different universities make up much of the street life. The area around the tower has taken on a character shaped by that mix of people, with cafes, shops, and services aimed at younger residents.
The building is in central Leeds, within walking distance of the main train station and several universities. Access is restricted to residents, so visitors coming to see someone should arrange entry in advance.
When it opened, Sky Plaza held the record for the world's tallest student housing building, a fact that received little attention at the time. That record has since been broken, but the tower remains one of the tallest of its kind in Europe.
