St Edern's Church, Medieval parish church in Bodedern, Wales
St Edern's Church is a parish church in Bodedern built in English Gothic style with cut sandstone walls and a slate roof. The building developed through two main phases of construction, mixing medieval features with later redesign work.
The church was founded in the 6th century by Saint Edern, with the current building dating to 1301. A major redesign by architect Henry Kennedy took place in 1871 and shaped much of its present appearance.
The interior holds hand-carved wooden panels from the 17th century that once belonged to Jesus College in Oxford. These pieces give the church a special warmth and show its connections to important places beyond the village.
The church belongs to a combined parish serving nine churches across the Bodedern with Llanfaethlu area. The interior is divided by a gallery supported by oak beams, which shapes how the space feels when you enter.
An inscribed stone from the 6th century, discovered during excavations near the village, is now built into the church walls. This ancient find connects the place directly to its early religious roots.
