St Mary's Church, Llanfair-yn-Neubwll, Medieval church in Llanfair-yn-Neubwll, Wales.
St Mary's Church is a medieval stone structure featuring a west tower, a nave with exposed timber beams, and a chancel separated from the main space by three arches supported on octagonal columns. The layout creates distinct zones while keeping sight lines open throughout the interior.
The building began in the 14th century as a place of worship in the local community. Major restoration work in the 19th century brought substantial changes to both the exterior and interior.
The church holds memorials from the 18th and 19th centuries, including one for Evan Thomas, a bonesetter who died in 1814. These markers tell the stories of people who lived in the community and were remembered here.
Visitors enter through the west tower, as the original south entrance has been converted to other use. The interior layout allows people to move around easily and see the full length of the building from most vantage points.
An arch in the south chapel bears an inscription asking Saint Mary to pray for David ap Iago, a rare surviving example of medieval Welsh religious practice. Such personal prayer requests were seldom preserved for later generations, making this one a window into the community's spiritual life.
