St Margaret's Church, Anglican church in Rottingdean, England
St Margaret's Church is a medieval stone building with a square tower displaying Norman architectural features throughout its design. Extensive stained glass windows fill the interior, creating visual focal points within the structure.
Construction began in the early 12th century with Norman influences shaping the design, though the original tower collapsed during building works and was rebuilt. This setback altered the final appearance of the structure.
The stained glass windows were created by Edward Burne-Jones, an artist who made Rottingdean his home for many years and left his artistic mark on this place of worship. His designs remain a notable feature inside the building.
The building is currently closed for repairs, but regular services are held at an alternative location in the village. It is best to check ahead before planning a visit to see when access to the interior will resume.
An exact replica of this church exists on the west coast of the USA, built as part of a mausoleum complex. The precise copy was transported to an entirely different setting across the ocean.
