St Martin in the Bull Ring, Anglican church in Bull Ring, Birmingham, England.
St Martin in the Bull Ring is an Anglican church in the Bull Ring shopping district of Birmingham, England. The structure shows pointed arches, ribbed vaults, and a tall tower with a spire.
Julius Alfred Chatwin designed the present building in 1855. It replaced earlier structures that had stood on this spot since the 13th century.
The name comes from the medieval market where bulls were once sold, while today the building stands surrounded by modern shopping centers. Visitors often step inside to escape the rush of the shops outside and sit for a few minutes on the wooden benches.
The interior is open during the day, and most areas lie on one level without steps. Those arriving on Sunday mornings may experience a service or hear the organ.
The Harrison and Harrison pipe organ dates from 1906 and is still played during services and concerts. Its sound fills the entire space and reaches up through the pointed arches into the tower.
