Rotunda, Grade II listed architectural structure in Birmingham, England
The Rotunda is a cylindrical high-rise in Birmingham featuring 25 floors with a modernist concrete and glass facade. Its distinctive round shape has defined the city's skyline since its completion and remains instantly recognizable from many angles.
Built in 1965 as part of the Bull Ring Shopping Centre development, the building originally functioned as an office block. It underwent major renovation in the early 2000s when it was converted into residential apartments.
The building sits within easy walking distance of Birmingham's city center and next to a shopping center for easy location. Street-level entrances and nearby parking areas make it straightforward to find, and public transportation connections are readily available in the area.
The building was constructed using an unusual method where each floor was built at ground level and then lifted into position. This approach allowed workers to install equipment and systems more efficiently before raising the completed sections upward.
