St Helen's Church, Overton

St Helen's Church is a church building in Overton with rubble sandstone walls and stone slate roofing. It features a distinctive bellcote with a pointed arch positioned at its western end.

The oldest parts of the building date from the 12th century, but significant changes came in 1771 when builders added a wider chancel. This renovation transformed how the interior functioned and appeared.

The interior walls feature painted panels with the Ten Commandments and the Lord's Prayer, which reflect traditional Anglican religious expressions. These painted inscriptions are among the first things you notice when you enter.

A 1902 restoration by Austin and Paley uncovered the foundation of an earlier canted apse at the eastern end. This discovery reveals that the building originally had a different planned form before later alterations changed it.
