St Mary's Church, Goosnargh

St Mary's Church is a medieval parish church built from local sandstone with roots in the late 1200s. The interior is divided into three sections, with the stone tower rising at the west end and windows letting light flood across the arcades.

The church was built in the late 1200s, but major changes came in the 1500s when the choir was entirely reconstructed. This rebuilding reflects shifting religious practices and architectural tastes of the Tudor era.

The church has been the heart of Goosnargh for centuries, and its presence continues to define the village center. Walking through, you see how the community gathered and worshiped across different periods.

The church sits in the middle of the village and is easy to reach on foot. The ground inside and around the churchyard is uneven, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended.

The churchyard holds gravestones dating back to the 1600s, showing how long this spot has served as a burial ground. A handmade sundial from the 1700s sits on circular steps with a vase-shaped base, marking time in a quiet corner.
