St Mary's Church, Mellor

St Mary's Church stands with sandstone walls and a slate roof, featuring a prominent west tower topped by a needle spire and angular buttresses.

Thomas Rickman and Henry Hutchinson designed this Grade II listed building in 1827, completing its construction in 1829 with funding from the Church Building Commission.

The church holds an octagonal wooden pulpit recognized as the oldest in England, alongside a Norman font from the late 12th century.

The Anglican parish church accommodates 200 people and maintains regular services under the guidance of Reverend Amma Sue Williams with musical accompaniment by organist Geoff Hill.

The churchyard contains the remains of an Anglo-Saxon cross and stone shaft stocks, plus memorials for sixteen Commonwealth service personnel from both World Wars.
