Stanage Park is a country house in Knighton featuring castle-style architectural elements including bay windows, a baronial tower, and a crenellated stable courtyard. It stands at approximately 219 meters elevation and blends residential comfort with fortified design features from its original conception.
The mansion was built between 1803 and 1807 by architects H and J A Repton for Charles Rogers, followed by further modifications in 1822, 1833, and 1867. The successive changes over roughly six decades reflect the family's evolving tastes and needs during the 19th century.
The estate holds one of Humphry Repton's design books documenting his most comprehensive and final Welsh landscape work. You can see the carefully planned garden principles reflected in the preserved terracing and classical ornaments scattered across the grounds.
The property remains in private ownership by the Coltman-Rogers family and is not open to the public. The terraces and gardens can only be viewed from outside the property boundaries.
The terraced grounds are defined by a low crenellated wall with rectangular exedras adorned by classical urns. A summer house dating from 1900 completes this carefully composed garden arrangement.
