Teesquay Millennium Footbridge, Pedestrian bridge over River Tees in Stockton-on-Tees, United Kingdom.
The Teesquay Millennium Footbridge spans the River Tees in four sections, connecting Stockton high street with the Teesdale Business Park across in Thornaby. The steel and concrete structure provides a pedestrian route between the two riverbanks where no crossing existed before.
The bridge was completed at the start of the year 2000 as a new piece of local infrastructure for the riverside area. It was constructed through funding from several public and regional sources supporting development in the region.
The bridge represents a significant advancement in local infrastructure, designed by Ove Arup and constructed by Birse Construction with components manufactured in Spain.
The bridge is approximately 2.7 meters (9 feet) wide and cyclists must dismount before crossing. The solid construction handles foot traffic well and remains passable in most weather conditions.
This millennium bridge stands out as one of the few such structures actually completed during the year 2000, despite not receiving Millennium Commission funding.
