Infinity Bridge, Pedestrian bridge in Stockton-on-Tees, United Kingdom
The Infinity Bridge is a pedestrian crossing over the River Tees featuring two asymmetric steel arches made from weathering steel that reflect in the water below to form a figure-eight pattern. The structure spans approximately 240 meters and links the University of Durham's Queen's Campus with the Teesdale Business Park.
Construction of the bridge in 2009 marked a major milestone in the redevelopment of Stockton-on-Tees' North Shore district. The project was part of a broader urban regeneration effort aimed at bringing economic growth and improved infrastructure to the area.
The bridge serves as a social meeting point where people from both riverbanks gather regularly for markets and local celebrations. It connects two different neighborhoods and encourages daily interaction between communities on either side.
The walkway is accessible on foot or by bicycle and offers a direct link between two major areas without detours. Access is free and available at any time, allowing visitors to move at their own pace and take in views of the structure and waterway.
The structure features an advanced LED lighting system that illuminates the steel arches in different colors throughout the night. These colored lights can be seen from far away and transform the riverscape into a glowing display after dark.
