Swanley New Barn Railway, Miniature railway in Swanley, England.
Swanley New Barn Railway is a miniature railway with roughly 900 yards of track, where diesel and steam locomotives carry visitors through the park grounds. The line operates multiple trains throughout the day using different engines from its collection.
The railway was established in 1986 starting with six diesel engines, including replicas of Kestrel and Deltic locomotives. Over the decades, the collection grew with additional engines and the site continued to develop.
The railway preserves locomotives that reflect railway engineering traditions and development. You can observe the different machines and their construction details up close as you ride through the grounds.
Visiting on weekends works well as trains run more frequently and the site is more active. Wear comfortable shoes since you will walk around the grounds, and allow time between train rides to explore the collection and facilities.
Lakeside station features a turntable and a signal box with mechanical controls from earlier railway operations. These technical details show how stations worked in the past before automation took over.
