Thorp Perrow Arboretum, Botanical garden in Snape with Thorp, England
Thorp Perrow Arboretum is an 85-acre woodland garden in England that holds extensive collections of tree species, including five National Plant Collections featuring linden, ash, cotinus, laburnum, and walnut trees. The site also contains 48 Champion Trees and houses a Bird of Prey Centre that conducts regular flying demonstrations across the grounds.
The estate originated around 1086 when it was under the control of Count Alan of Brittany. The site's name derives from a connection to the lords of Pirnhow manor, an estate in Norfolk.
Visitors use this space as a place to observe nature and learn about different tree species at their own pace. The bird of prey displays create opportunities for people to connect with wildlife in a direct and engaging way.
The garden can be explored on foot throughout the day, with most visitors planning two to three hours for a leisurely walk through the grounds. For people with limited mobility, electric vehicles are available to help navigate the different areas of the estate.
The grounds house a collection of 48 Champion Trees, specimens that rank as the tallest or oldest of their kind in their categories. These remarkable examples are scattered throughout the site and demonstrate the incredible diversity of tree species.
