Western Baths is a Victorian-era building on Cranworth Street in Glasgow's West End that was designed as a swimming club. It contains a swimming pool, fitness areas, Turkish baths, and a sports hall arranged across multiple levels.
The building was constructed in 1876 by architects Clarke & Bell as a private venue for Glasgow's wealthy men. It was part of a wave of swimming facilities that emerged in British cities during the Victorian era.
This place has been a gathering spot for Glasgow's well-to-do citizens since its opening, and the layout still reflects the exclusive club atmosphere of that era. The way the spaces are organized shows how important physical fitness and leisure were to the city's prosperous residents.
