Vincients Wood, Nature reserve in Chippenham, England
Vincients Wood is a nature reserve covering around 6 hectares of mixed broadleaf woodland on Chippenham's western edge. The trees are mainly oak, ash, and field maple, growing across gently rolling terrain.
The southern section contains medieval earthworks with banks and ditches showing that forest has covered this land since at least the 16th century. This tells us the woodland has remained largely intact for generations.
Local volunteers work here to maintain paths and improve habitats for wildlife throughout the seasons. You can see how community members take an active role in caring for the woodland.
You can access the reserve from Moss Mead and follow a roughly one-mile circular path through the woodland. The route connects several entrance points, making it easy to explore different areas.
In recent years, new trees including English oak, wild cherry, and rowan have been planted along with a freshly created glade and pond. These additions show ongoing efforts to make the woodland more welcoming for wildlife.
